A Little About Me…
Hi there, my name is Jaclyn Steen and I am a graduate of Rhode Island College with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre (Concentration in Musical Theatre) and a Bachelors Degree in Dance Performance. I am also very grateful to have received the 2021 Cap & Gown Yetta Rauch Melcer Dance Award. I was a co-director of the Rhode Island College Dance Company and a member of the Rhode Island College Musical Theatre Company, for all four years of my college experience. I am a singer, actress and dancer, eager to keep connection with the arts. I value leadership, creativity, communication, hard work and organization, which I try to bring forth when I am a part of a production or working with a company. I am currently training and performing with an adult ensemble collective at Pantos Project Dance in Boston, Massachusetts. I grew up in East Greenwich, Rhode Island and I have an older brother with a physical disability. This has made me more aware of how lucky I am to be able to dance and move freely. In addition, it has given me the chance to see how people act towards those who have disabilities and it has made me more sensitive to how I act. Furthermore, the experience inspired me to start working with a company in college, called RHD-RI, where they pair caretakers with those who have disabilities and emphasize using the arts as their main form of therapy. After college, I worked in various fields of education. I have been working in special education at Curtis Middle School for the last three years. I work primarily with students who are on the Autism Spectrum and have recently achieved my Applied Behavior Analysis Certification. In the summers you can find me spending time in Maine on Sebago Lake with my grandfather. Beyond the arts, I enjoy being outdoors and have recently picked up snowboarding again.
