A Little About Me…

Hi there, my name is Jaclyn Steen and I am a graduate of Rhode Island College with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre (Concentration in Musical Theatre) and a Bachelors Degree in Dance Performance. I am also very grateful to have received the 2021 Cap & Gown Yetta Rauch Melcer Dance Award. I was a co-director of the Rhode Island College Dance Company and a member of the Rhode Island College Musical Theatre Company, for all four years of my college experience. I am a singer, actress and dancer and I am beyond excited to pursue a career in the arts. I value leadership, creativity, communication, hard work and organization, which I try to bring forth when I am a part of a production or working with a company. I grew up in East Greenwich, RI and I have a brother who is twenty three years older and has Cerebral Palsy. This has given me the opportunity to be more aware of how lucky I am to have legs that work and allow me to walk and dance. In addition, it has given me the chance to see how people act and treat those who are disabled and it has made me more sensitive to how I act. Furthermore, it has inspired me to work with companies such as RHD-RI, where they pair caretakers with those who are physically or mentally disabled, with an emphasis on using arts as the main form of therapy. In the summers you can find me spending time in Maine with my grandfather. Beyond the arts, I enjoy being outdoors and have recently picked up snowboarding again. I am currently dancing with a company in Boston, Massachusetts and working in childcare as I continue to explore long-term opportunities in the arts.
